Blast Protection Systems
An
explosion happens in an instant, with devastating effects that can
kill, maim and destroy property.
Even in the fraction of a second in which the explosion occurs there are distinct effects
and phases that can be measured, only by defeating each and all of these will protection be
provided against the blast.
Unfortunately every blast threat has differing dominant effects; this means that with
conventional engineering materials, universal protection can only be provided by being
thicker, heavier and so more expensive.

Water-based Blast Containment - for suspect packages
The Waterwall® System is a rapid deployment anti-blast containment system utilising water to contain fragments.
Water, having a relatively high mass, has often been used to mitigate the effects of explosions either deliberate or accidental.
In sufficient quantity, it can dramatically reduce the damage caused by primary and secondary projectiles and interact with the chemistry of the explosion, reducing heat and the overall effectiveness of the primary explosive material.
Depending on the thickness of the water and the size of the explosive, blast overpressures can be significantly reduced and a high percentage, if not all, of the fragmentation captured.

Filmtek Anti-Blast & Safety Film - for glass
Bomb Blast Film is the simple and cost-effective installation of Bomb Blast glass-containment window film which will significantly reduce the hazards of flying glass, holding broken glass safely within the film thereby dramatically reducing injury and damage whilst also minimizing clear-up time.
Safety & Security (Anti-Shatter) Films are suitable for application to windows, structural glazing, curtain walling, glazed partitions, glass exteriors, roof lights and atrium roofs to efficiently and economically increase glazing safety in the event of breakage or failure.

Blast Suppression Equipment - anti-terrorist
Litterbin's (BlastShield Bins)
 |
Litterbin's have long been a chosen concealment for terrorist bombs and in standard form add to the fragments and blast threats.
Westminster's BlastShield Bins offer exceptional blast protection for bins indoors and outdoors, this BlastShield bin is the only safe practical solution for high value public areas.

TABRE Blast Protection - for buildings
The TABRE® Blast Protection Systems applies established principals of physics through a
sophisticated design of novel materials in combination, by using a specific three layer
material combination that together soak-up the energy from an explosion, reducing it to a
level that can be satisfactorily sustained.
The core to this novel materials technology is a resin-bonded particulate, the uniqueness
of this constituent comes from what the particulate is, and how it is bonded together.
The system uses a specific graded aggregate (small, same size stone chips) bonded together
with the minimum amount of resin, the resulting hard material resembles a stone sponge, being
both porous and permeable, a labyrinth of tiny air pockets in this stone sponge is ideal for
trapping the energy from an explosion, much like a sound proofing material with sound waves,
the resin-bonded particulate breaks-up the shockwave from a blast, capturing it in these air
pockets and forcing it through a tortuous path to escape.
Although destructive in its own right, the shockwave from a blast is only part of the
explosive event, following on from this supersonic shockwave, the hot rapidly, expanding
gases created by the explosive along with the fragments it creates or carries, are equally
lethal.
The resin-bonded aggregate absorbs these effects through breaking the bonds between each
of the stone chips so the material either breaks away or goes soft and compressible.
The two other layers in the system now catch the fragments and resist the pressure of the
expanding hot gases.
The true accomplishment of total blast protection using this materials technology approach
comes through the tailoring of the materials in the 3-layer system to the specific blast
threat and application, changes in the mid layer and backing layer, tunes the effect of the
whole system to defeat the blast.
This engineering design flexibility now allows both economical and practical solutions,
enabling protection where protection has never been possible before.
